Nail disorders can be painful and aesthetically unpleasant, but they can also be dangerous and have serious health consequences. There are a few self-check methods you can take to see if your nail disorder is severe, and in some cases, there are some simple ways to avoid these nail disorders. Always consult a doctor before taking any medication to treat nail disorders.

Steps to follow to diagnose nail disorders:

1.Determine if the disorder is caused by fungi. Fungal infections generally involve discoloration of the nail. If the nail is pink, you probably don’t have a fungal infection. However, if the nail is yellow, dark brown, or black, it is possible it is psychoneurosis, which is a fungal infection on the nails. Psychoneurosis can also make nails thicken to the point of discomfort. Visit your doctor if you think you may have psychoneurosis, as it could spread to other parts of the body.

2.Check that you do not have psoriasis on the nails, especially if you have psoriasis on the skin. Like psychoneurosis, nail psoriasis causes the nails to turn yellow. However, psoriasis nails differ because of air bubbles that can develop under the nail, which eventually causes the nail to fall off if left untreated. The nail does not thicken as it will if you have psychoneurosis, but it will come off the yellowish patches.

3.Check that your nails are not brittle and brittle. In general, they are characterized by a cut in the middle of the nail or by being increasingly thin to the point of pain. There are two general causes of brittle and brittle nails.

The first is the constant exposure of the nail to water and the second is due to a deficiency of the vitamin. A quick way to diagnose it is through comparing it with toenails. If your toenails are good, this problem is probably not due to a vitamin deficiency. To avoid brittle and brittle nails, you should do water-related housework with gloves, and use a nail polish with nylon fibers as the base, before applying other nail products.

Tips

  • Psychoneurosis can be avoided by good nail hygiene practice. Don’t share pedicure, manicure, or nail clippers, and be sure to check your nails after using public pools.
